Punahou Carnival Art Gallery 2011

February 1st, 2011

If you like going to the Punahou Carnival every year, please be sure to visit the Gallery.  Kahi will have  the “Spirit Series” (from ASJE 2010) copper piece here and a photograph from his “Botanical Series” (three photos from this series are part of the newly renovated Double Tree Alana Waikiki).  50% of the selling price directly benefit Punahou School’s Financial Aid Program.  While our daughter is currently in the Wait Pool at Kamehameha Schools, considering Punahou is an option so long as financial aid is available–so let’s keep the program going.  The carnival is on for two days only, Friday Feb. 4 and Saturday Feb. 5 from 11 am – 11pm.  Put some cash aside from now ’til then and we’ll see you there!

Contemporary Bonsai Studies Course by Kahi Ching

December 26th, 2010

Kahi will be teaching at the Academy Art Center this Spring 2011.  He will be incorporating the Art of Bonsai and 2-Dimensional Art in this class.  This will be a new approach from a fine artist’s point of view, and his own steps in documenting, studying, and creating bonsai using “artist” techniques.  See link to view the catalog, to learn more about the course, and how to register.  We are very excited about this course, he has taught drawing and painting before, but this course will be combing his art knowledge with his love of Bonsai.

Contemporary Bonsai Studies by Kahi Ching

Weds 6–9pm / Jan 26–May 4 / $260 / Rm 102

Students will create contemporary bonsai. Kahi will introduce bonsai history and contemporary theory. Cultivation, design and documentation (drawing, painting and photography) are included.

Eco-friendly techniques for finding, salvaging and collecting bonsai specimens will be discussed.  Mame (miniature) bonsai and ceramic container projects will be explored. Includes a field trip to observe trees and collect specimens.
