Aloha All!  Kahi will be returning this Summer to teach his Contemporary Bonsai Studies Class at the Academy Art Center, see attached Schedule of Courses for class info.  The Spring Class had lots of fun!  Thank You to Josh, Neil, and Roxane!  What makes this bonsai class different from other traditional bonsai classes is that Art is incorporated into the sessions such as bonsai pot and tray making, as well as drawing and painting.  Give Bonsai a try using Kahi’s simple teaching methods, you will learn a lot in different areas that correspond with the craft.  Registration is taking place NOW!  First class is on Saturday May 28, from 9 am – 12 noon, tuition is $175 for 10 sessions.Academy Art Center Summer 2011 Schedule

MAMo 2011 Events (Maoli Arts Month – May)

Friday, April 8th, 2011

Anticipated month long event every year, Maoli Arts Month is here.  This year, tribute is made to Artist and Visionary, Hiko’ula Hanapi, whose goal in making Hawaiian Art more accessible to the community had been accomplished way before his passing (We Love You Hiko!).  Visit www.maoliartsmonth.org for the complete schedule of events (throughout April, May, and part of June).  You can see some of Kahi’s work at The ARTS at Marks Garage gallery exhibit (thru June 5), and during a Silent Auction held during the Wearable Art Show (May 19).  Lots of things to see and do!  Don’t miss out!  Remember, this event happens once a  year!

“Kuakeahu” Mural at Camp Mokule’ia

Friday, March 25th, 2011

This mural graces the inner wall of the Chapel at Camp Mokule’ia.  One of the most magnificent and ethereal images I have ever seen and experienced.  You have to just see it in person!  It perfectly displays Hawaiian and Christian stories of creation and sends you off into life’s journey.  Organized by Kahu David Turner of Camp Mokule’ia and lead artist Meleanna Meyer, joined by artists Kahi Ching, Solomon Enos, Al Lagunero, Harinani Orme, Alice Chen, Malia Andrus, Roopal Shah, and also joined by our wonderful hui of Keiki Artists.  Our family got the chance to experience the Camp’s amenities during the weekend!  The kids loved the ocean, the lodge (with private bath), and meal times (complete with the triangle meal call bell).  They have a lot to offer, R&R here is unbelievable!  Visit their website for rates and accommodations: www.visitcampmokuleia.com

Kahi Ching in Honolulu Weekly

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Kahi is in this week’s Honolulu Weekly, Feb. 23 – March 1, 2011, with an article by wonderful writer, Karen Iwamoto.  It reveals Kahi’s concept on ‘Umeke La’au or Hawaiian Bonsai.  If you are no where near that infamous red newsstand, where the issues are free, you can see the article online at:  http://honoluluweekly.com/city-wise/2011/02/hawaiian-bonsai/

(In my opinion, the paper spread looks better, and has more photos! -Diana)
